Fracture

What is a spinal fracture?

We call spinal fracture any breaking in the bones of the spine.

In other words, we mean the interruption of the spine’s sequence, because a bone has been broken, cracked, or its initial shape has been generally deformed.

Most fractures are mainly caused by falls, car accidents, or osteoporosis. In most of the cases, there is pain and a potential deformity. In severe cases, there are symptoms of numbness in the extremities, as well as difficulty in moving them. An immediate examination by a physician is imperative, as this assures a timely diagnosis and proper treatment.

If no neurological injury exists, the fracture may be treated conservatively, namely by using an orthopedic brace. On the contrary, in more severe cases, surgical treatment is required.
