The McKenzie method – internationally known as Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) – is a complete system of examination and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions of the spine and peripheral joints, which cause acute or chronic pain. It is able to eliminate symptoms, restore functionality and limit relapses.
It is based on classifying various conditions in subcategories, by evaluating the history and clinical picture, thus being able to foresee at an early stage who will respond positively to the treatment and who will not. It is an internationally recognized method of self-treatment and it works by applying personalized special therapeutic exercises and posture training.
It uses mechanical processes which lead to restoration depending on the problems and symptoms. It does not use any devices or drugs, makes the patient independent from the therapist, as it is based on his active participation, and is successful in eliminating the symptoms, restoring functionality and limiting relapses.
